Jason Porter here. Despite my deviously clever forum nickname, I suppose that some of you were able to deduce that before reading this. I've been a staff writer here at GCM for over 5 years, and the site's release coordinator (this sounds fancier than it actually is) for the last couple. GCM rocks, and I'm glad to see we're picking up steam once again.

I'm what a lot of people call a casual gamer, but that doesn't mean I come home at the end of the week, bust out a handheld video poker game and call myself a gamer. A more accurate description of the type of gamer I am is "non-competitive." I play games to relax and escape, and although I enjoy a good Mortal Kombat: Deception or Super Smash Bros. Brawl deathmatch as much as the next guy, I don't go out of my way to game competitively against other players. The ego-fest of things like WoW arenas and LAN FPS fragfests just rubs me the wrong way. I am an avid and longtime gamer, and a perfectionist (I like to unlock extras, break systems and max out everything possible when I play a game). As one might imagine, this makes MMOs intriguing and frustrating to me all at once. If I get one piece of an armor set, I have to stop and dig around until I have every piece. I can't leave the job unfinished.

My other passion is game collecting. I'm not a high-powered collector of ultra-rare stuff, but I do what I can on my limited time and money budget. I own several older consoles including an Apple ][, a Dreamcast and a TurboGrafx-16, and I primarily collect games for the NES and PS1. I prefer to do my treasure-hunting on foot--typing in what I want and eBaying it just seems like a cop-out. I collect games to play them first, and for the sake of collecting second, so I have no interest, except financially, in games like King Neptune's Adventure for the NES, which is worth hundreds of dollars but plays terribly (my local video rental store had a copy of it when I was a kid). The crown jewels of my collection are my PS1 RPGs, including Persona 2: Eternal Punishment, Star Ocean: The Second Story and so on. The last find I made was a copy of Puss 'N' Boots: Pero's Great Adventure for the NES (cheap, uncommon, and fun). I've currently got my sights set on MetalStorm for the NES and Persona: Revelations for the PS1.

Hmm... I guess that's about it. Speaking of ego-fests... sheesh. Well, there you have it.
