Okay - time for all 360 owners to chime in on their thoughts with the new LOOK for 360 dashboard...or should I say Wii60.
Personally, I think the avatars are a such a ripoff of Mii's that I hope Nintendo sues Microsoft. I think Microsoft took a very adult and sophisticated gaming system and dumbed it down to pre-teen level.
I find the whole look of the new interface rather cluttered and confusing and the entire thing should be OPTIONAL. There was nothing wrong with the blade interface. The Marketplace is much slower now with all the extra crap to wade through.
I did like a few functionality additions, especially when pushing the GUIDE button during a game. The new preview assets for the games are pretty nice, screens, movies, demos, etc. The Live Party thing is also kinda cool but all these functions could have been implemented without all the cluttered graphics.

It appears the Micro$oft has placed the 360 as the next logical step for those who like the Wii but want better games, but not as 'complicated' (i.e. powerful/useful) as the PS3.
The X button now is a lot more functional than it used to be, but everything else is buried someplace in a flyout. It's taken some getting used to, but I like it better than the old interface. Unfortunetly they seem to have hidden the "sign on automatically" function someplace, and the open/close tray is missing too. |

Close Tray is now the first box (far left) in My Xbox - the one that normally shows the name of the game you have loaded. I've never seen an OPEN tray, even on the old interface.
Profiles can be auto-logged. I had to re-log my profile after the last update but now it always loads my primary profile without asking. I think its a toggle in the system settings options.
I'd be much happier with the interface if it would START on My Xbox rather than what Microsoft happens to be promoting that day. Feels like I'm being forced to watch splash ads before playing. My biggest complaint is how SLOOOOOWWW everything is now. It takes forever to load each page in this clunky interface.
I will admit, I do like how fast the arcade games load now. With more than 70 of those suckers it used to take awhile for the old interface to load them all - now they are all cached for instant access. |
