I think that until either the price point of a new PS3 drops further, or Sony is able to win the popular image battle in the console wars, it's wise of them to keep selling a system that's proven. Nintendo did the same thing for a few years after the SNES was released, rolling out a top-loading NES alongside their new system.
Personally, I'm intrigued by the commitment that the PS3 is making to original disc-based titles like LittleBIGplanet, Heavy Rain, Heavenly Sword and Cross Edge, which seems to be a bigger commitment than either Microsoft or Nintendo has made. It seems that Sony got off on the wrong foot PR-wise though, and I don't blame them for continuing production of the PS2 while they try to get back on solid ground. |
