Football video games have never been that great for the DS. It is one of the few platforms that the Madden series has not flourished on. Given this fact I am a little surprised that Mad Catz has actually released a NFL licensed Case for the DS. At the same time NFL licensed game accessories always sell well no matter the platform. The NFL Console Jersey Showcase for the DS Lite will likely be no different. NFL fans eat this stuff up, and in this case for good reason.
The DS Lite NFL Console Jersey Showcase is exactly that. It is a Showcase. It isn’t really made to protect your DS since it only covers the outside. It does nothing to protect the screens, buttons, or anything on the inside. It also doesn’t give any kind of storage for your games or other accessories like some cases on the market. Like the Mad Catz faceplate for the Xbox 360, it is just a plastic cover for the top and bottom of your DS that you place different team Jersey inserts into. So if you are looking for something to protect your DS this would not be the best choice.

What it does offer is inserts for all 32 teams and an official NFL insert as well. You can interchange the inserts in and out as often as you like. This gives you the option to jump on that midseason bandwagon and jump off again before it crashes. Not that anyone would actually do that, right? This case is very functional in that regard though.
When purchasing it you give yourself the flexibility to change teams down the road. In my case I come from the Cincinnati area, and people love the Bengals, so when I go home I can change it to the Bengals. Where I currently live people love the Colts so I can have my DS decked out for the Colts. This appeases both sides. I can’t lose.
One of the other features that I like about this case is that you don’t have to take it off to play your DS since it just snaps onto the outside. This can be quite convenient. You really never have to take it off unless you want to switch the team insert.
The DS Lite NFL Console Jersey Showcase may not offer the kind of protection that you may feel that your little DS deserves but it does essentially offer 33 different case designs in one so if you’re a NFL fan looking for something to trick out your DS with, this is it. For twenty bucks you can’t really go wrong.
