Every now and then there is some part of some game that always seems to be especially difficult for a majority of the people who are playing it. Often I will receive dozens of emails daily about the same problem occuring in the same game. Up until now I have been responding to these questions individually, but hopefully this section will eliminate about half of my outgoing daily email. Always make sure to check this area first before you email me with your questions. Resident Evil: Code Veronica Problem: I'm playing Chris in Antarctica and need a Fire Extinguisher to move on. Where is it? Solution: You got a fire extinguisher very early in the game. You MUST put that fire extinguisher in a normal storage box back on the prison island (or carry it with you on the plane) before leaving this island. 95% of the people who ask about this have left this important item in the security lockbox in the metal detector hallway. If you don't have a save game from before you left the island you will have to restart the entire game. Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee Problem: The Scrubs refuse to pull the levers at the end of the "Labor Eggs Storage" level. Solution: This is a "known bug", and nobody knows what causes it. Simply restart and replay this level and it will work the second time you play. Again, nobody knows why it works the second time through - it just does. Problem: I can't talk to the two Mudokons in the minefields of Flub Fuels while holding a keg. Solution: This was an error in my original release of the guide that has been fixed in v1.1 You need to make two trips across the upper platforms and two trips across the mine field. Carry the powder keg on your second trip. Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 2 Problem: I'm trying to get the Fire Reaver and I can't find the "missing section of ice" or crack in the frozen lake. Solution: First, make sure you are at the correct lake. You should be at the large lake outside Janos's fortress - NOT the lake outside the Sarafan Temple from the beginning of the game. The crack in the ice is in a direct line from the ledge you are standing on after the movie toward the tower with the winged creature. Problem: I can't get out of the Dark Forge. Solution: It seems that if you mess with the Ravens (the birds that turn green and disappear) outside the Dark Forge, and then enter and complete the puzzle, you will have no way to exit the forge. There are two solutions to this: Method 1: Replay the Dark Forge, taking extra care not to disturb the Ravens on your way into the forge. Complete the puzzle, and you should be able to use the Dark Reaver to open the door and exit. Doing this will still enable you to view the cut scene between Vorador and Raziel. Method 2: Open the door to the Dark Forge, and, while the door is open, switch to the Spectral Realm and proceed into the forge. Make sure you get a good, long way away from the open doors before you switch back to the Material Realm. This will cause the game to leave these doors open. Solve the Dark Forge puzzle, and then, before exiting the forge, switch back to the Spectral Realm. This will prevent the doors from closing when you approach them, and you can exit the Dark Forge without any glitches. Completing the Dark Forge in this manner will NOT allow you to view the cut scene between Raziel and Vorador. On a side note, if you re-enter the Dark Forge, and then exit it using the Dark Reaver after leaving using the method 2, you will get the cutscene between Raziel and Vorador. I don't know if the potential to get stuck in the Dark Forge is still there the second time around or not. Myst 3: Exile Problem: I can't use the 3 symbols on the imaging table in the Observatory. I can't get my mouse into the inventory window. Solution: To access the inventory bar you need to first right-click your mouse to disable "free-look" mode then you can move your cursor to the inventory bar and drag the paper to the table. Mac users need to press the SHIFT key to do this. Tomb Raider Last Revelation Problem: I can't get out of the Jeep or go in reverse. Solution: The default key to exit the Jeep is the JUMP button plus the left directional key. The jeep must also be fully stopped and parked so that nothing is obstructing the left door. The WALK and SPRINT commands switch between forward and reverse gears. Problem: I can't find Secret #13 in the Tomb of Seth. Solution: This is better explained in my new v1.2 update of the solve. Briefly, climb the same ladder that led to the switch that unlocked Secret #12 then walk out onto the gold/black surface and make two angled jumps to the left to cross the face of the Sphinx. You should spot the ledge with Secret #13 when you reach the third ledge. Problem: I can't climb into a crawlspace. Solution: Make sure your feet are NOT attached to the wall. You MUST be hanging by your hands only before pressing the CRAWL and UP buttons to climb into a crawlspace. If your feet are attached to a wall/ladder quickly release the ACTION button and press it again to grip only with your hands then press UP and CRAWL to enter before your feet reattach. All Games Problem: I've saved my game right before my character dies and I have no other save games. HELP! Solution: I've been giving game advice for over six years and I still cannot believe it when I get this question. All games come with multiple save slots (some even offer unlimited saves). NEVER use only one slot/file to save your game, otherwise you definitely risk the chance that this will happen to you and you will have to start the game over from the beginning. When you do have limited saves I strongly advise that you use ALL available slots before ever overwriting a previous game. Escape from Monkey Island Problem: I'm having trouble in the swamp with the "other" Guybrush not appearing at the gate or not being able to use my inventory with the "other" Guybrush. Solution: Many bugs in the swamp seem to be caused by having a joystick plugged in. Remove the joystick and try again. Tomb Raider Chronicles Problem: I've made it to the final building on the OLD MILL level, but I can't get through the window. Solution: Crouch and use the new "forward tumble" move to roll through the window into the floor below. You can also crawl backward into the window and lower yourself down. Oddworld Exoddus Problem: The Slig voice-locks won't open or they laugh at me. Solution: Say "Hi" to start the sequence then WAIT for all four sounds to play before repeating them back. If you interrupt you will hear a laugh and have to start over. Deus Ex Problem: I finished Mission 1 and all my objectives are completed, but cannot use the police boat to go on to next mission. Solution: This is a known problem only with illegal/pirated copies of the game. Make sure you have a "real" copy of the game. Tomb Raider 3 Problem: I can't target or kill that frogman in Lud's Gate. Solution: You can only kill him while he is in the water. Run past him and dive into the water. Swim left then right through the door and use the harpoons on the UPV to kill him. Problem: I can't get off the Quad Bike (ATV), Kayak, or Zodiac. Solution: The default key to dismount all of these vehicles is the END key plus the left or right arrow depending on which side you want to exit. Problem: Where is the BOILER ROOM key in Lud's Gate level? Solution: You can find this key on the body of the uniformed guard you killed back near the frogman who was guarding the secret underwater room with the UPV. Prince of Persia 3D Problem: Certain objects (platforms or rock ledges) are not moving they way they should in the Dirigible and/or Floating Ruins levels, or the game crashes in the circular library. Solution: This is a known bug. Install the v1.1 update patch and restart the level. After installing the patch. if you are prompted to "Insert CD 2" even when that CD is clearly in the drive you will need to reinstall the entire game over the top of itself (do NOT uninstall first) to fix this problem. Indiana Jones Problem: I just started Shambala Sanctuary. Where is Indy? Solution: This is a known bug. Install the v1.2 update patch and restart the game to fix this and several other bugs. Oddworld & Exoddus Problem: How can I drop and roll without getting killed? Solution: While you are running you need to press and HOLD the action/crouch button for as long as you need to roll. As soon as you let off you will stand and continue running.
