The list of Geometry Wars clones is long and not so distinguished, but there is one game that manages to achieve a level of polished perfection and blistering gameplay to earn it the right to be mentioned in the same sentence. Of course I am speaking of Infinity Field, the latest entry in the twin-stick shooter genre that has you piloting a geometric shape around the 10” arena that is your iPad shooting all sorts of odd shapes and watching the resulting psychedelic fireworks show. Tackle six survival modes including – Zombie, Snake and Insane mode. Infinity Field also features a full campaign mode with hugely challenging bosses, as well as a fun, competitive multiplayer option. Regardess of the mode, you can expect fluid controls that allow smooth ship movement and precise circular targeting using a deadman’s control where, if you take your fingers off the screen the game pauses. Gameplay is as simple as the concept – move around the screen avoiding hundreds of spawning enemies while shooting at those same enemies collecting any powerups that might be left over after the sparks settle. Rack up multipliers and bonuses for high scores, but watch out if you die – that multiplier will take a hit. Infinity Field is Crystalized and supports Apple Game Center for high score leaderboards and achievements so you can compete with your friends. The music is pretty awesome even if it does take a backseat to the incessant sound effects of weapons and explosions. The audio is certainly as chaotic as the visuals – perhaps more so, and you can always pump in your own favorite music if you like – I recommend techno. Infinity Field offers a mind-blowing visual experience that will assault your eyes and ears and put your reflexes to the ultimate test. It might not do much to push the boundaries of the twin-stick shooter genre but it certainly perfects the concept and is a fantastic bargain for only $2. ![]()
