It's time for you to take control of the world’s most famous archer of all time!! Become Robin Hood and help him save his kingdom in the newest defense game in Robin Hood: Archer of the Woods on your iPhone or iPad!! It's time to protect your village from a new batch of enemies from medieval soldiers on wooden segways to giant trolls!! Put your skills to the test and find out who the best archer on the planet is with your Crystalized leaderboards and achievements that you can view on your own or upload to Apples new Game Center leaderboards. You open the app up with Robin Hood in a tall wooden archer stand with a couple of huts in front of him. There are two levels to protect. You have the top half and the bottom half that are going to have enemies walking on to get to your huts to cut them down or in some cases smash or burn down when you reach the boss fights. This game is really straightforward and not that hard to play. You put your finger on the screen in front of Robin Hood and slide it back behind him and then lift up your finger and WHOOSH there goes the arrow towards your enemies – much like Angry Birds, with your power determined by how far in front of Robin you start. Be careful though because if you start too far in front you will slide your viewing over and loose Robin and your opportunity to shoot that shot. All your shots are blind but you follow the arrow to see where it lands. I have to admit it gets a little irritating at times with this blind shot format, but to help with that the app does leave a white trail for your last shot so you can adjust the next. The weapons are what make this game a lot of fun. You are probably thinking its Robin Hood and he just has arrows, duh!! That is right but there is a little twist to keep you on your toes. You will have six shots at a time before you have to take time to reload with six more and give your enemies a chance to get closer to destroying you huts. The game does it for you and it only takes two to three seconds to complete. The twist is there are six different upgrades for your arrows to hit when the boxes appear: the drill arrow, the magnetic arrow, arrows that break off into two or in some cases four in one shot, the bomb arrow, and the napalm arrow. The drill allows you to shoot through anything including normal soldiers allowing you to take out multiple soldiers at a time. The drill is also nice for your troll boss fight because it uses a shield that only exposes his head. The drill allows you to shoot right at him instead of up high and have the arrow drop on his head. The magnetic arrow you can shoot at any power level and it will find the enemy and hit its exposed areas with no aiming. You just have to pick if you want it to track on the upper level or lower level. With the arrow that becomes more arrows you just shoot like you would with one arrow and at the power level you would like and it takes off and then shortly after the shot you see it break off into how ever many arrows you were awards for big combos. There are two types of bomb arrows. The just bomb arrow is shot like any other shot and when it hits the ground or enemy it blows for a close range explosive attack. What makes the napalm awesome is that it makes the explosion take out the top level as well for a big combo opportunity!! The only issue I have with these is that they are hard to get sometimes. When you see the icon for the shot you only have two shots to hit the box. Most of the time other enemies get in the way and you hit them or you shoot your first blind shot and if you don't correct perfectly for the second you missed your chance. They also can't combine powers, which would have wickedly awesome. A great thing about this game is that there are no levels. How far in the game you go is up to your skill level. You have two waves of normal medieval enemies that will be one time hits or have armor, so unless you hit them in the head they will take two shots to kill. Every third wave is boss fight. There are only three types of bosses that repeat over and over in the same order. You have a giant troll that has his big shield only exposing its head. Then you have a flying cow that breathes fire, and a wooden pig that when you cause it to break open has soldiers inside as well. Now I can't confirm that those are the only bosses because I have never made it past the 11th wave. What makes it hard is that you just get more and more enemies with more armor. So now that you know what kind of archer I am come get me and let me know where you stand!! This is a dollar app that is very simple to play but impossible to win or putdown. For some reason when I was sitting at work with nothing to do I was just pulled to the game. It has great colors with the new retina display for the iPhone 4 owners and it looks great. When you get a headshot you got to see blood all over the screen like any other first person shooter game when you are getting lit up. The background music is the same light hearted flute sounding music you would expect from that time and I tended to tune it out after awhile because it got obnoxious at times and I wanted to focus on the endless stream of enemies trying to take out my village in Sherwood Forest!! This game is well worth the dollar you would spend and you will play over and over again even after you think you are bored with it. So enjoy and let me know how far you can get… ![]()
