  • The team of dragons who blow bubbles, Bub and Bob were first introduced in the game Bubble Bobble in 1986. This game consists of platform levels and a scrolling screen. Bub and Bob’s first adventure was to save their girlfriends from the Cave of Monsters. In their new adventure Bub and Bob and their new cousin BuBu will find a secret treasure map. They will then spend their time hunting down the illusive treasure. This title offers a hundred levels of fun and frenzy. It even offers a multiplayer mode where you and your friends can play together and find the treasure together.

When you play Bubble Bobble Double Shot you will play as all three of the main characters. Each character can blow out different bubbles. As you progress through out the game you will need to switch between the characters in order to defeat the different enemies. You will be able to tell which bubbles you will need depending on what color star the enemy has floating around it. Bub is the green dragon, Bob is the blue dragon and BuBu is the red dragon. Each dragon will shoot out the same color bubble as their skin. If an enemy does not have a star floating around it any dragon will be able to defeat it.

When you are defeating enemies you will be given three lives. If you touch or run into any of the enemies you will lose a life and have to start from the beginning of that particular level. If you happen to run out of lives and die you will be able to play fun little games in order to obtain a continue. One of the games will show you a different bubble then you will need to use the stylis to tap that bubble on the touch screen. You will be timed as you do this. Each time that you use up all of your lives you will have the chance to get a continue. But be warned the more continues you use up the harder obtaining them will be.

While playing you will come across hordes of different creatures and characters. The first monster you will face will look something like a marshmallow with a winding gear. I assume these are supposed to be robots. You will also come across creatures that will float in the air and try to attack you. As you make it through each level they will become harder and harder. At the end of each area you will have to face a boss. The first boss is a large version of the marshmallow robots. Each level will have its own unique boss to destroy.

The levels you will adventure through are not all that interesting as they are all on a scroll scale. It can sometimes be hard to jump on different platforms. One of the things that bothers me the most is when the monsters get stuck and it is nearly impossible to kill them without killing your character. A lot of the levels resemble shapes and creatures. I think they put a little too much emphasis on creating images and not on how fun the levels would be. They could also have really improved the levels and made them bigger or more detailed. Anything would be better than what Bubble Bobble Double Shot offers.

The graphics I can describe in one way, old school. You should expect this with most remakes of original classics. The colors and background are really colorful and the characters are in no way 3D. The characters don’t even really move they just shift up and down as you jump. All of the background and platforms or presented in the scaled out games of the past. The ground is basically bricks with grass on top through out the game depending on area you make it to.

The sound on this game is pretty generic. It’s pretty much the same as it was when this game was first released. I wasn’t impressed with the sound. But you really can’t expect a game that hits the market at an original sale price of $19.99 to really put much effort into its sound. All you will hear through out the game is a constant drone. When you enter into a boss battle the sound will have the generic boss battle music. Overall the music is nothing to get excited about and really is nothing special.

You will be able to purchase this title in stores today for the price of $19.99. Would I spend that much on this game? No, I would never probably purchase this game at all. There is a reason that this title wasn’t super popular when it was first released. It’s nothing special. I did find some enjoyment while playing the game. However games like this can be played on the internet at no cost to you. If you really want to purchase the game wait a while I’m sure that it won’t stay at full price for very long. You will probably be able to purchase this game for $5.00 in the near future.

My final thought on Bubble Bobble Double Shot is that it is not worth the investment. It’s not really that fun. All the levels are really cheesy and uninteresting. I would recommend this as being a family friendly game there is no violence and the characters are kid friendly. But there are other games that are kid friendly and a whole lot more interesting. This title probably won’t spark the interest of most modern gamers this game didn’t hit it big in the past and it most certainly won’t hit it big now. With out dated graphics and uninteresting characters and levels this game is below average.
